The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) index, which measures the trend of mortgage financing requests in the United States, recorded an increase of 1.2% last week, to 889.1. This is the fourth consecutive increase. In detail, the demand for refinancing of existing loans increased by 1% (3,567.6), while the demand for loans specifically aimed at purchasing a property rose by 1.4%, to 428.6. The real estate market in the US continues to prove to be strong thanks to the low level of mortgages. Last week the average rate on the thirty-year maturity fell to 5.34%, close to the lowest level ever reached last June (4.99%). Insiders expect the real estate market to continue to grow at least for the entire first half of the year.
