In 2002 the supply of new homes increased by 14.6% compared to 2001.
This is one of the data that emerges from the tenth "Conjunctural and revision report on the construction sector" drawn up by Cresme, a center for economic, sociological and market research in the construction sector. This report will be presented in collaboration with the International Building Industrialization Exhibition, the day before the opening of the fair which will be held in Bologna from 16 to 20 October.
The growth recorded this year represents the continuation of a positive trend that has continued since 1999; last year, in fact, an increase in the supply of new buildings equal to 7.9% was recorded.
According to the analysis, the positive phase will continue throughout 2002 and will continue until the first half of 2003.
Next year, however, will end with an insignificant increase in supply, since there will be a slowdown in the second half of the year.
As regards 2004, however, a real setback is expected.
The technical director of Cresme, Lorenzo Bellicini, agrees with ANCE, the national manufacturers' association, in stating that an extension of the 36% discount can provide a valid contribution to the growth of the sector, but maintains, at the same time, that he is not convinced that the recovery discounts can be zero-balance for the state coffers.
