According to the ANCE Economic Observatory, in Italy only 19% of families live in rent, a percentage in Europe higher only than Ireland (16%) and Spain (10%). The percentages in Germany (60%), Holland (47%) and France (42%) are significantly higher. The demand comes mainly from low-income families but the availability of public housing in Italy is limited.
