In the first half of 2003 a real record was recorded with a total of 12 new shopping centers delivered, for over 300,000 m2 of GLA (including expansions). According to the real estate consultancy firm Jones Lang LaSalle, this is a figure significantly higher than those recorded in the semesters of previous years. The projections for 2006 identify a possible increase of more than 75 centers with approximately 2.3 million new square meters (including expansions). Approximately 36% of the future offer will be located in the areas of southern Italy, where Sicily, Campania but also Puglia and Calabria will host the most significant developments. The investment market in shopping centers was one of the most dynamic real estate sectors with seven transactions concluded in the first two quarters of 2003 for a total value of more than 400 million euros.
