The holder of the mortgage contract who is late in paying the relevant installments is also given the green light, provided that the delay does not exceed 90 consecutive days.
The suspension of first home mortgages to deal with the coronavirus emergency is also possible for defaulters.

With the 'Cura Italia' decree the Gasparrini fund was strengthened. In particular, the number of cases in which it is possible to request the suspension of first home mortgages has been expanded and the forms necessary to make the request have been simplified.
Regarding the conditions for access to the fund, Consap specified 'that the owner of a property used as a main residence can apply, holder of a mortgage contracted for the purchase of the same property not exceeding 250 thousand euros. The mortgage must also have been repaying for at least one year at the time of submitting the application.
Again according to Consap, 'in the event that, at the time of submitting the application, the holder of the mortgage contract is late in paying the relevant instalments, the delay must not exceed 90 consecutive days'. Adding: 'In the case of a mortgage jointly held by two or more people, it is sufficient that the above conditions (ownership of the property, ownership of the mortgage and residence in the property) also exist for the sole borrower who suffered the event'.
As specified, 'the Legislative Decree. of 2 March 2020, n. 9 provided for admission to the benefits of the Solidarity Fund for mortgages for the purchase of a first home for events linked to suspension from work or reduction of working hours for a period of at least 30 days. The Legislative Decree of 17 March 2020, n. 18 provided for the admission to the benefits of the Solidarity Fund for mortgages for the purchase of the first home, for a period of 9 months from the entry into force of the legislative decree, for self-employed workers and freelancers who self-certify pursuant to articles 46 and 47 Presidential Decree 445/2000 that they have recorded, in a quarter following 21 February 2020 or in the shorter period between the date of the application and the aforementioned date, a decrease in its turnover, higher than 33% compared to the turnover of the last quarter of 2019 as a result of the closure or restriction of its business, implemented in implementation of the provisions adopted by the competent authority for the coronavirus emergency. Furthermore, for a period of 9 months from the entry into force of the legislative decree, for all cases of access to the Fund, the presentation of the equivalent economic situation indicator (Isee) is not required.
