Energy saving: balcony photovoltaics

To save on the costs of energy supplies there are also sustainable and technological solutions, even if little known.

Many are led to think that solar panels are exclusive to new buildings or detached houses. However, even those who live in an apartment in a condominium can save on their bills by focusing on green energy. As? With balcony photovoltaics.

How it works

Balcony photovoltaic is a system that requires a simple intervention for its realization which, moreover, is considered as free construction. Except in some specific cases, there is no need to request particular authorizations, just notify the condominium about the installation of the system intended to serve your apartment on the balcony railing/parapet, as required by art. 1122 bis of the Civil Code.

Before installing a balcony photovoltaic system, it is essential to check that there is one optimal exposure in the sun (to the south) and without obstacles, i.e. without buildings or trees in front that provide shade.

A balcony photovoltaic kit, generally, includes one or two photovoltaic panels, with a power between 350 and 400 watts. The microinverter will then transform the direct current produced by the panels into alternating current by feeding it into the grid. Everything must be fixed to the balcony, including the solar cables.

The balcony photovoltaic structure, generally speaking, occupies a space of 177 cm in length and 105 cm in height. While the best inclination of the panels is 30 degrees to the south. Once assembled, the system must be connected to the network. All you need is an electric plug with a dedicated socket that complies with the requirements expressed by the CEI 0-21 standard.

How much does it cost

A 350 Watt balcony photovoltaic system produces, on average, around 400 kWh of energy in a year, the equivalent of the consumption of an air conditioner or a refrigerator. By installing two solar panels with a peak power of approximately 700/800 watts, you can achieve a saving on your bill of around 25%

As regards the cost of a balcony photovoltaic system, the turnkey price starts from around 600 euros, reaching up to 1,000 euros. However, incentives are also provided, such as the 50% tax deduction, which can be accessed by making a building renovation type bank transfer and starting the procedure with Enea within 90 days of the end of the works.
