Traceable payments: the threshold payable with contactless is raised

From the January 1, 2021 the threshold for i will be increased contactless payments without pin code request. The objective, in addition to encouraging i traceable payment methods, is also to limit the risks of contagion from coronavirus.

In fact, it comes doubled the amount payable with contactless which goes from 25 to 50 euros. A decision that goes in the direction of new consumer needs, to guarantee digital payments that are as simple, quick and secure as possible.

“Bancomat, Mastercard and Visa – we read in a statement reported by Il Sole 24 Ore – as the main payment circuits present in our country, are thus committed to guiding the world of payments towards an important step that will mark a clear improvement in consumers' daily lives”.

There threshold for contactless payments was brought to 50 euros temporarily already in several countries from the beginning after the outbreak of the pandemic precisely to discourage the use of cash and avoid contact with devices for entering pin numbers, precisely to limit the risks of contagion as much as possible. This measure, much hoped for by the ECB, will soon be permanent in Italy from 1 January 2021.
