The winds of war and the economic crisis frighten Italian savers who continue to see real estate as the only safe investment and shy away from the stock market, perhaps burned by the recent market collapses. This is what emerges from a survey by Eurispes 'Italians and economic expectations for the future', conducted on a sample of two thousand people aged 18 to over 65 years
representative of the Italian population. Savers are definitely aiming for solid investments: 42.5%, if they had a nest egg to invest, would opt for real estate, 24.6% choose a current account, whether bank or postal, and 11.4% prefer government bonds. Only 7.2% venture into the unknowns of Piazza Affari in search of securities to sell and buy. And a large part of those interviewed (14.4%) do not express themselves, uncertain about future prospects. Uncertainty remains a key element even when we look at the possible countermeasures implemented by the Government to deal with the difficulties facing the economy. When asked whether the current economic policy of our country gives confidence or not, almost 20% of those questioned say 'certainly not', 32.3% say 'maybe not', while among the most positive, 5.9% are convinced, 30.1% are possibilists ('maybe yes'). And the situation does not become more rosy, says the Eurispes survey, if we move from the political level to the strictly family level. The tendency to 'survive' prevails: 38.7% of cases manage to make it to the end of the month; with a fairly similar percentage there are also those who manage to save something (35%) and, with a much lower value, those who save quite a bit (10.5%). The most critical cases are those of those who will have to use previously accumulated savings or who will have to take out debts (8.2% and 2.9% respectively).
