Over 8.5 million euros in 2003 and 1 million in 2004 will be allocated to provincial and municipal administrations, according to a priority ranking which provides different scores for the completion and expansion of school buildings in use and for the purchase of properties to be re-adapted. With these interventions in particular the aim is to improve the quality of school buildings, encourage the aggregation of school units, abandon buildings improperly used for school purposes and those still rented, but above all improve the standards of space and services intended for each pupil. The regional contributions will be assigned with a percentage varying from a maximum of 80% of the cost of the works for Municipalities under 1000 inhabitants to 50% for those over 5,000 and for the Provinces. A single intervention per municipality will be financed. The maximum amount will be 200,000 euros for renovation and adaptation of systems and 500,000 for completion, expansions and purchases of new buildings.
