Unified color for the bins: the separate waste bins will have the same shapes, colours, writings and icons in all cities, also indicating to tourists where to throw plastic, glass or wet waste.
The new standard of the Italian standardization body (UNI 11686) on the visual identifying elements of containers for the separate collection of waste has been published.
Italy, we read in a note, is the first European state to adopt this rule which aims, among other things, to promote the EU objective of 65% of separate waste collection and 50% of actual recovery.
These are the standards from which the Uni technicians started:
white for paper, cardboard (magazines, newspapers and cellulosic materials in general);
green for glass (bottles, jars, mirrors, etc.);
red or brownish for organic (wet);
yellow for recyclable plastic (drink bottles, detergents, hygiene products, etc.)
And blue for aluminum (cans, packaging, spray cans, etc.)
A severe blow to the imagination of the Municipalities which until now could independently decide the shapes, colors and writings on the containers for separate waste collection: in Rome, for example, the green bin is synonymous with undifferentiated waste while in Milan and Naples it only accepts glass. The Romans throw glass, plastic and metal into the blue bin which does not exist in Milan while in Naples it welcomes unsorted waste. And so on.
The European Directive 2008/98/EC and the laws in force provide for the use of stickers and panels with colors and graphics that characterize each type of waste. A simple graphic redevelopment improves the aesthetics and, above all, pushes to improve the purity of the materials supplied to the advantage of the real start of material recovery.
